Because of my anaesthetic and trauma background, the acute management of brain injuries (traumatic or otherwise) is a long standing interest. The appropriate early management makes a mammoth difference - the difference between someone returning to being the same person they were prior to the injury, and not. It is more than life and death, though sadly this is not a “sexy” area in medicine at the moment and is therefore often neglected.
